DoesSurface Transformsneed an introduction?

The brand certainly deserves continuous attention from the automotive sector, and for good reason! The British manufacturer from Liverpool is gaining ground in the field of Carbon Ceramic brake disc technology and as an importer and distributor of the brand, we see a growing interest among people looking for a serious brake upgrade! Recently, we had a McLaren 720S in to have a new set of front and rear discs installed in combination with Pagid brake pads. In our new workshop, our mechanic Kay was able to work his magic and equip this 720S with a new set of discs and pads that allow the owner to seriously push their limits.

WHAT WAS INSTALLED?

Although we are switching from OEM Carbon Ceramic discs to Surface Transforms Carbon Ceramic discs, there is still a difference in weight. The STCC discs are a few hundred grams lighter per corner, with a total weight saving of 1.2kg on the complete set. Of course, this is not the reason for the replacement, but a nice bonus in terms of unsprung weight. Since the original brake pads were heavily worn, we replaced them with the RSC1 compound from Pagid, on the recommendation of Surface Transforms. This compound is specially developed for Carbon Ceramic discs and performs well both on the street and on the track. On the front axle, we installed the ST-K-1048 390mm brake discs, with Pagid E8269-RSC1 brake pads, on the rear axle we installed the ST-K-1049 380mm brake discs, with Pagid E8270-RSC1 brake pads.

During the installation, we encountered few particularities. Of course, we made sure that everything was nice and clean before mounting. This is very important to prevent any vibrations. There is a second brake caliper mounted on the rear axle that is used as a parking brake. Since this brake is also used for correcting oversteer, these brake pads were also worn out. We replaced them with a new set of OEM brake pads.
